NHL/Hockey Marketing To The Masses

The NHL in the USA, much like Rodney Dangerfield, seems to get no respect from the mainstream media. You constantly hear about how the game needs to be marketed better to the US fan or that Sidney Crosby is the face of the new NHL. To his credit, he has taken on the responsibility of this onerous task and is very open with his time.

Winter Classic to be played in Chicago

We all remember the Winter Classic played in Buffalo New Years Day. This year the Winter Classic is making its way to Chicago where the Blackhawks will face off against the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field on January 1, 2009.

Fernandez working hard towards return to Bruins lineup

The Boston Bruins lost Manny Fernandez to 78 games last season after the goalie had knee surgery. Tim Thomas did admirably filling in for the injured veteran, but the Bruins need Fernandez back not only for this season but to mold future Boston goalies.

Boyle Is Not Going Anywhere, At Least That Is What He Says.

Tampa Bay: Dan, would you like to be traded? Boyle: Hell no!

Is Ryan Malone really worth 7 million?

Over the last few days we’ve seen all kinds of weird trades, some may change the course of an entire franchise just like the Toronto Maple Leafs/New York Islanders trade at the draft, while others seem to be a quick fix to an overwhelming lack of scoring, just like the Tampa bay Lightning/Pittsburgh Penguins deal.

There Is A First Time For Everything

The Detroit Red Wings are the Stanley Cup champions for the 2007-08 season. After being the best team in the NHL all season long. The Wings won their fourth cup in eleven years. One player on the team however made history.

Something Brewing In Hab Town?

With draft day just 21 days away there is too much of nothing going on in Montreal. Too quiet. With all the restricted free agents and a few unrestricted free agents to sign, could one think that Habs general manager is up to something?

Islanders Draft Watch: Colin Wilson

Each week, from now until the Draft, I will be profiling a new prospect from the Draft Pool and analyzing how their skills might or might not make them a good fit for the New York Islanders. This week: Colin Wilson.

Lafleur Gets Two Cents In, Again

Guy Lafleur is one of the greatest wingers in NHL history. He has played with a few Hall of Famer’s. He also has a weekly column in le Journal de Montreal. This past week Lafleur added his two cents about what the Montreal Canadiens should do.

Tragedy Strikes NHL

TSN is reporting that the Vancouver Canucks have lost a star in the making on the blue-line. Luc Bourdon was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Habs News

There has been some minor news about the Montreal Canadiens in the past few weeks. Here is a look at the latest news in the Habs camp.

Toronto Maple Leafs Talent Development is Abysmal

In my honest and ever-important opinion, Greg Gilbert should be fired for choosing to play Scott Clemmensen ahead of Pogge. It was an absurd decision and one that could only be allowed to happen under this franchise. Someone - i.e. Cliff Fletcher - should have stepped in and made sure Pogge was between the pipes. What you have here is another, might I add shining, example of Toronto Maple Leafs player development. Textbook MLSE development. You know how we do.

Islanders Draft Watch: Mikkel Boedker

Each week, from now until the Draft, I will be profiling a new prospect from the Draft Pool and analyzing how their skills might or might not make them a good fit for the New York Islanders.

Gainey Should Have More To Work With

The Montreal Canadiens should have more room to work with next season as the salary cap is expected to increase to 56.3 million.

Cap To Increase By 6 Million

Sports Business Daily is reporting that the NHL salary cap will increase from 50.3 million to 56.3 million next season. The cap floor will also increase, it will be at 40 million, or a little above.
