Habs Make Some Call-Ups
RDS is reporting that the Montreal Canadiens have made some call-ups for the play-offs, it was announced this morning, perhaps this will wake up some players for the next game.
The Canadiens called up Yann Danis, Pavel Valentenko, Mathieu Carle, Brock Trotter, Matt D’Agostini, and Kyle Chipchura all from the Hamilton Bulldogs, to join Gregory Stewart who was still with the Habs. Not mentioned in this article, the Canadiens have also called up Ben Maxwell from the Kootenay Ice.
Now calling up all these youngsters doesn’t mean that any of them will play in the post season, it’s most likely so that those players can see what it’s like in the NHL play-offs, and is more or less an indication that the players brought up will be heavily looked at from now until next season’s training camp.
The Habs have at least some people to fill positions should there be need, but perhaps it could silently be a way for the coaching staff to tell it’s players that there are people here to replace them if they fail to perform. Either way the Habs have bodies to put in if there are too many injuries.
If the Habs have prepared themselves for a long haul in the post season, they might want to start by winning the current series against the Boston Bruins, as it looks like the Bruins have taken the momentum factor going into Boston on Saturday. Hopefully the newly called up rookies will have more than two or three games to watch while they are with the big club.
All of the call-ups will be studied further as the entry draft approaches, perhaps Danis is there for the Habs to decide if they will trade him or Jaroslav Halak, as for the rest of the call-ups, there will be a few free agents for the Habs after this season, maybe they are studying the possibility of which of those free agents they won’t re-sign and keep some of the call-ups. What ever the reason is, I’m sure the rookies will have fun just being around the big club, and seeing what possibly awaits them either with this team, or with another in the NHL.
Let’s hope that these youngsters pan out for the Habs, or gives the Habs a hard choice to make next season. GO HABS GO!
