Rangers need help at center
John Dellapina of the New York Daily News reports that the New York Rangers would “love to acquire a second-line center.”
Apparently, Vancouver Canucks’ Brendan Morrison and Los Angeles Kings’ Craig Conroy are said to be some of the names mentioned. However, the Rangers have found the asking price for the two forwards to be “too high.” Both Morrison and Conroy have been the subject of trade rumors this season.
There has also been some “internal discussion” within the Rangers organization about re-acquiring Petr Nedved, who was recently waived by the Philadelphia Flyers. There’s a chance that the Rangers could pick him up on re-entry waivers, thus only having to pay the forward half his salary. The Rangers believe that Nedved would fit in very well with Michael Nylander and Jaromir Jagr on the top line, and it would also allow Martin Straka to “slide down to center the second line.”
Dellapina notes that there is nothing imminent on the Nedved front.
