Burke wants another shot

Jim Gintonio of The Arizona Republic reports that unrestricted free agent goalie Sean Burke would like to continue his NHL career for at least one more season.

“I’m not really looking at it at the moment as being desperate to hook up with anybody,” he said. “I’m at a stage where I’d like to play another year.”

Burke goes on to say that if he catches on with a team, he wants to play on his own terms and for the right reasons. And if he can’t find the right situation, he would be content with retiring.

“I look at all the good stuff, all the great opportunities I had, the enjoyment,” he said. “Right now, it’s kind of a nice stage because I don’t feel a lot of pressure. I want to play for the right reasons for another year if I can, enjoy it and maybe have a chance for the Stanley Cup. But if not, it’s time to move on and do some other things.”

The 40-year-old Burke was recently seen skating in Phoenix with some Coyotes players in an effort to keep in shape. There are no indications that the Coyotes are interested in signing their former netminder, however.

Burke played in 23 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season.
