Canucks, Linden working on new deal
Iain MacIntyre of The Vancouver Province reports that unrestricted free agent forward Trevor Linden met Monday with Vancouver Canucks GM Dave Nonis to work out a new contract.
An announcement on a new deal could come as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Canucks have roughly $4.1 million left to spend under the salary cap, and would love to add another forward.
In an effort to give the team some cap flexibility, Linden is said to be willing to play for the league-minimum of $475,000, plus bonuses.
Before signing a contract with the Canucks, Linden met with Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault to discuss what the his role with the club for the upcoming season. Word has come out that Linden was told “his ice time will be based on merit, awarded on performance.” The long-time Canuck and fan favorite said he would accept his role with the team, whatever that may be.
