Contract extension in works for Sharks’ Michalek?
David Pollak of the Mercury News reports that the San Jose Sharks may be close to signing forward Milan Michalek to a long-term contract extension.
An Internet report from Michalek’s native Czech Republic stated recently that the 22-year-old was on the verge of signing a six-year, $26 million deal.
Both Sharks GM Doug Wilson and Michalek’s agent, Allan Walsh, said an agreement has not been reached, but indications are that a deal could be imminent.
Wilson is somewhat cryptic in his description of the situation.
“Have Milan and his agent expressed the desire to do something? Yes,” the G.M. said. “And are we very receptive? Yes.”
Michalek is currently in the final year of his entry-level contract; he is set to earn $942,000 this season.
In 78 games with the Sharks last season, Michalek recorded 26 goals and 66 points.
