Forsberg to Flyers, Part 2?
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, unrestricted free agent forward Peter Forsberg’s top destination is the Philadelphia Flyers.
While Forsberg has not discussed a contract with any NHL team, he has publicly mentioned the Flyers along with the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators as place where he would like to play.
Should Forsberg return to North America, it’s believed that the Flyers would be interested and “have, or will make space” to re-sign their former captain.
However, some have suggested that the longer it takes for Forsberg to come back to action, the more likely it is that the Flyers could turn their attention elsewhere. With the February 26 trade deadline approaching, and the ever changing nature of the NHL, a number of things could prevent the Flyers and all other teams interested in acquiring Forsberg’s services from signing him.
Currently, Forsberg says he is “cautiously optimistic” that he will return to the NHL this season. He is still “awaiting clearance from doctors to resume skating” so he can test whether his surgically repaired foot can withstand the stress of playing professional hockey.
Sources indicate that from a medical standpoint, everything appears to be on track.
