Is Van Ryn done with the Panthers?
Steve Gorten of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Florida Panthers defenseman Mike Van Ryn could be on his way out of town.
Van Ryn was benched for Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils in favor of Noah Welch, sparking speculation that he has fallen out of favor with Panthers head coach and GM Jacques Martin.
Listening to Martin’s post-game comments, Gorten deduced that Van Ryn was in fact in the coach’s doghouse.
Martin admitted he was bothered that Van Ryn’s “fitness level” was not up to par and hinted his on-ice play was lacking.
Gorten suggests that if the Panthers don’t feel Van Ryn can contribute to their team anymore, they should move him and his $3.2 million salary.
