Maple Leafs will pursue Forsberg under right circumstances
Toronto Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr. tells George Gross of the Toronto Sun that while he is not actively pursuing unrestricted free agent forward Peter Forsberg, that may change.
“As it stands now, we won’t go into the free agent market,” said John Jr.
“But things could change. We could be interested in Peter Forsberg if conditions are right.”
However, in that case, we would have to make room for him in view of the cap situation.”
Aside from salary cap issues, Ferguson would have to consider the array of injuries Forsberg has suffered in the past and the myriad of surgeries he has undergone this calendar year alone before deciding to go after the Swedish-born player.
Forsberg had an operation on his ankle this summer to repair an injury that kept him out of the line-up for most of last season. And now comes word from Tim Panaccio of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Forsberg underwent hernia surgery last Tuesday, further delaying his potential return to the ice.
