Peca pursued by Blue Jackets
Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports that the Columbus Blue Jackets have made unrestricted free agent forward Michael Peca their prime target in replacing Alexander Svitov who bolted for Russia.
“I’ve spoken to Columbus about Michael,” said Don Meehan, Peca’s agent. “We’ve talked to a number of teams, really, and I’ll sit down with Michael on Monday to discuss where we want to go.”
The Blue Jackets entered the Peca sweepstakes once it was announced that Svitov had signed with Avangard Omsk of the Russian Super League.
Although Meehan would not comment on Peca’s demands, it’s believed that the Blue Jackets intend to offer the checking-center a “one-year contract laden with incentives.”
Aside from Peca, UFA forwards Jason Allison and Mike Johnson are among the Blue Jackets’ considerations. UFA defenseman Danny Markov could also be of some interest.
The Blue Jackets have between $1.8 million and $2 million under their budget to sign any player, or players.
