Svitov gone from Columbus, but not done as a Blue Jacket?
Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports that Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson has not closed the door on having forward Alexander Svitov play for the club in the future.
While Howson is angry with Svitov’s decision of signing a long-term deal with Omsk of the Russian Super League while still under contract with the Blue Jackets, the GM says that the possibility of Svitov returning to Columbus sometime down the road remains open.
“He’s an emerging player,” Howson said. “I wouldn’t rule anything out.”
For the time being however, that is to say for his season, the Blue Jackets are planning on suspending Svitov so as to gain some salary cap room.
“At some point, we’ll be within our rights to suspend him for the year,” Howson said.
It’s still unclear why Svitov left the Blue Jackets for Russia, but Howson believes it may have something to do with the Russian player’s desire to play at home.
“From what I’ve heard, he wanted to play at home, that he was more comfortable at home,” Howson said.
