Wild want to upgrade, target big names
According to Michael Russo of the Minnesota Star Tribune the Minnesota Wild are interested in upgrading at the center position and on defense before the February 27 trade deadline.
It’s believed that Wild Doug Risebrough is looking for a veteran center that “could supply grit, faceoff prowess and playoff experience.” Some possibilities include Kevyn Adams of the Phoenix Coyotes, Bryan Smolinski of the Chicago Blackhawks and Manny Malhotra of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Wild are also in the hunt for St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk, and the team may be offering “former first-round draft pick A.J. Thelen” as part of a package.
Russo also reports that the Wild are interested in picking up a defenseman. Word is that Risebrough has called the Montreal Canadiens to inquire about the availability of pending unrestricted free agents Sheldon Souray and Andrei Markov.
