Wings want to keep Datsyuk, but at what price?
Don’t expect the Detroit Red Wings to trade Pavel Datsyuk anytime soon, as the team is still trying to re-sign the forward.
Earlier reports suggested that Datsyuk was looking for just over $5 million a season, but now comes word from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun that he is in fact seeking between $6 and 7 million per season.
The Wings are said to have offered their star forward $5 million a year during negotiations in November. Due to the large difference in what Datsyuk was asking, and what the Red Wings were willing to give him, Wings GM Ken Holland decided to halt talks for the time being. A good move for Holland.
Datsyuk is currently “on pace for 50 points,” and likely not enough to garner him his asking price. If he continues at his current pace, the Wings’ $5 million offer could look very enticing to Datsyuk by the end of the season.
