Zherdev wants top-six minutes, or trade out of Columbus
The agent for Columbus Blue Jackets forward Nikolai Zherdev tells Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch that if his client doesn’t get a spot on the team’s top two lines, he may ask for a trade.
“Nikolai obviously wants to be a top-six forward,” said Rollie Hedges, one of Zherdev’s agents. “It would be pretty upsetting if he wasn’t in the top six.”
“We realize it’s preseason,” Hedges said. “We realize there was a switch to center early in training camp, and now he’s back on the wing. There’s been an adjustment period there for Nikolai. We realize these things.”
“Three weeks from now? If he’s not on the top six, then you have to question the situation. But, no, not right now.”
Furthering speculation that Zherdev could find himself on another team sooner rather than later, was the sighting of eight scouts, including two for the Pittsburgh Penguins, taking in the Blue Jackets game on Thursday.
However, both Hedges and Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson deny a deal is close or imminent.
