Berard, Sheppard, the top 3 players likeliest to be traded

Have the Wild signed James Sheppard? Is Bryan Berard still in the Islanders’ plans? Which three veterans are likeliest to be traded?

TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that the Wild have indeed signed forward prospect James Sheppard to an NHL contract.

However, he is currently not on the team’s 23-man roster because Sheppard “is awaiting the final clearance on his immigration paperwork.” The process could take “a matter of days,” or as long as “a week or more.”

While unrestricted free agent defenseman Bryan Berard remains unsigned, he may soon catch on with the New York Islanders, reports Greg Logan of Newsday.

In an interview with a local radio sports station, Islanders head coach Ted Nolan said the club is trying to sign Berard.

“He’s a special talent. We’re hoping things work out.”

Berard was invited to the Islanders training camp on a tryout basis and is still with the team while “paying his own expenses.”

According to Kevin Paul Dupont of the The Boston Globe the likeliest players to be traded are Sergei Fedorov of the Columbus Blue Jackets, P.J. Axelsson of the Boston Bruins, and Miroslav Satan of the Islanders.
