Blackhawks, Battaglia, Jokinen, and the Ducks
Are the Blackhawks looking to bolster their forward ranks? Will Bates Battaglia get sent to the minors? Is Olli Jokinen headed out of Florida? Are the Ducks closing in a a deal?
With forwards Rene Bourque, Jason Williams, and Kevyn Adams all injured, Chicago Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon is actively looking to add some help to his forward ranks, according to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.
“We look at it on a daily basis to see what our needs are,” Tallon said. “But do we sell our future to be better in the present? That’s something we seriously have to look at. It has to be the right mix and the right deal that fits into our plans for the future as well. I’ll pull the trigger on a deal if it makes sense, [but] I’m not going to do it just because those guys are hurt.”
Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bates Battaglia will be demoted to the minor if he is not claimed off waivers.
Battaglia makes $650,000 and is signed through to next season when he will earn the same amount.
While Internet rumors have had Florida Panthers forward Olli Jokinen headed to the Calgary Flames, among other teams, the consensus is that he’ll likely stay put, according to Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun.
According to Director of Publications & New Media for the Anaheim Ducks Adam Brady, it’s expected that the Ducks could announce a trade sometime today.
