Johnson and the Oilers, Lecavalier, Denis, and Forsberg
Do the Oilers have any interest in UFA Mike Johnson? Are the Lightning planning on signing Vincent Lecavalier before he reaches free agency? Could Marc Denis find his way out of Tampa Bay? Who’s leading the way in the Peter Forsberg sweepstakes?
Pat Morris, the agent for unrestricted free agent forward Mike Johnson, tells Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal that the Edmonton Oilers have no interest in his client. While the Oilers would like to add a top-six forward, they see Johnson as a third-line player.
In a question and answer session with season ticket holders, Tampa Bay Lightning GM Jay Feaster said he would like to sign Vincent Lecavalier to a long-term deal before his contract runs out after the 2008-09 season, reports Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune.
“We will do everything we can to get Vinny re-signed before it ever gets to that point [free agency]“, Feaster said.
During the same Q&A, Feaster hinted that if goalie Marc Denis does not play up to par he could be demoted to the “minor leagues or play his way into a trade.”
Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun reports that the Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, and the Philadelphia Flyers are the top contenders in the sweepstakes for unrestricted free agent forward Peter Forsberg.
