St. Louis for Turco, Forsberg, Marleau, and Hossa
Does the Martin St. Louis for Marty Turco trade rumor make any sense? Will Peter Forsberg play in the NHL ever again? Which Sharks forward are the Maple Leafs after? Are the Thrashers and Marian Hossa close to a deal?
Carter Gaddis of The Tampa Tribune reports that there is no truth to rumors that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars are discussing a Martin St. Louis for Marty Turco swap.
Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe reports that the agent for UFA forward Peter Forsberg, Don Baizley, has recently reiterated that his client will not return if he can’t perform up to his capabilities.
“If he can’t play at 100 percent, he doesn’t want to play.”
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun however, many hockey people don’t believe that Forsberg will play another game in the NHL.
In case he does return to the NHL, rumored clubs to be interested in Forsberg’s services are the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, and Vancouver Canucks.
Garrioch also reports that Toronto Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson has contacted the San Jose Sharks to inquire about the availability of pending UFA forward Patrick Marleau. Marleau has a “no movement” clause in his contract that takes effect January 1st.
And lastly from Garrioch, word is that pending UFA forward Marian Hossa may not sign a contract extension with the Atlanta Thrashers. Hossa is said to prefer to “see what improvements the team makes” before re-signing.
Should the Thrashers and Hossa not reach an agreement by the trade deadline, the club may deal him. It’s speculated that the Senators and Red Wings will make a play for him.
