What a beginning to Kyle Okposo’s career. The highly touted prospect of the New York Islanders scored his first NHL goal last night (the Game Winning goal, no less) and contributed an assist in the Islanders’ 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils last night at the Prudential Center. The win broke New York’s losing streak at 6 games. Blake Comeau and Trent Hunter (empty netter) also contributed goals for the Islanders. Travis Zajac tallied for the Devils.
Take heart, Islander fans: There IS light at the end of the tunnel and, for once, it’s not an oncoming train.
It’s been a long time since hockey has been relevant in New York… but don’t tell that to Islanders and Rangers fans. Every time these two step on the ice against one another, fans of each team treat the contest as if it were Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
According to Newsday’s Mark Herrmann, the New York Islanders aren’t likely to add any big-name players to before the February 26 trade deadline.
