New York Rangers – A Brief Preview

The reason I’m going to be brief about this particular preview is because what I saw of the Rangers through the preseason, and then what I saw in the back to back 2-1 wins over Tampa in Praha were enough to set my brain into a tailspin… Totally dominated in the games that didn’t matter, and totally dominant in the ones that actually counted for something, albeit played in an ill-contrived attempt at gimmicky marketing masked in the “gesture of good-will to the nations that feed us their best talent” setting…

Round 2, Match-Ups

The second round of the play-offs will be as good, if not better than the first round. With all the interesting match-ups for the next round, it’s hard to say which one will be the best to watch.

RFAs, Tanabe, and the Blues

Which RFAs will get re-signed before they hit the market? Can the Hurricanes buy out David Tanabe? Will the Blues seek to improve their offense this summer?

Two More Points

Well, my post-Montreal collapse predictions weren’t so crazy after all eh? The Rangers are 3-0 since their OTL in Montreal, and to my credit I predicted 3 wins, but only the 5-0 win over Florida at the Garden counts as a “spanking.” We are now into March on the calendar. This is a month where the Rangers play 10 out of 14 games against Atlantic foes. If we can get out of this month with more than a winning record, we should have a playoff spot locked up. All that starts Sunday @ the Garden when the Blueshirts have a brunch with the Flyers at 12:30 on NBC. But enough looking ahead, here are my notes and thoughts on last night’s 4-2 win in Raleigh.

Updates on Malik, Devils and Blue Jackets

Will Marek Malik be traded? What will the New Jersey Devils do? Are the Blue Jackets and Rangers still talking?

Joseph, Lundqvist, Emery, Ducks, Liles, and Blue Jackets & Rangers

How many teams are interested in Curtis Joseph? Will Henrik Lundqvist get a monster-sized long-term deal? Have the Senators put Ray Emery on the trade market? Will the Ducks finally start negotiations with Corey Perry? Are the Avalanche shopping John-Michael Liles for top-line forwards? Which player did the Rangers not want to deal to the Blue Jackets?

Rangers, Blue Jackets involved in multi-player trade talks?

Tom Reed of The Columbus Dispatch reports that the Columbus Blue Jackets are indeed exploring trade possibilities with the New York Rangers.

Rangers have assets to make big changes

Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes that the New York Rangers have plenty of quality and affordable young players to make significant improvements to their roster before the February 26 trade deadline.
