I’ll be updating this column weekly, tracking the season of the New York Islanders. The big story thus far has been the inactivity of franchise goalie Rick Dipietro. He finally received his first start of the year against Florida on Saturday night and let in a goal early on. However, he settled down afterwards and played reasonably well, keeping the Islanders in the game.

So Habs fans, the Centennial season has commenced! We’ve been waiting a while for this, and here we are…too bad Ryan Miller and the Sabres had to go spoil it. Not to fear, fellow believers, not to fear. It’s one game, decided by a shootout-there’s no shootouts in playoffs. Besides, we all know Carey Price’s track record in shootout-he’ll be fine.

The Montreal Canadiens wrapped up their pre-season yesterday with a loss to the Minnesota Wild and made their final cuts save one. It’s now, or maybe later?

According Sportsnet and TSN, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe may be willing to waive his no-movement clause and allow a trade to the Florida Panthers.

The Montreal Canadiens are seemingly going for the conference title, however, with the Pittsburgh Penguins winning tonight, it makes it a little more difficult for the Habs as the Pens now have two more wins then the Habs.

The Montreal Canadiens played a horrible game tonight, they came out flat, and with no energy, a sign that they didn’t play for three days, but they still managed to beat the Buffalo Sabres in overtime.

The Montreal Canadiens need to win three more games, or win two more coupled with an Ottawa Senators loss to win the Northeast division.

The NHL did something a few years ago, they created a system that makes a team which loses in overtime get a point, I find this to be absurd, but it is making the play-off race exciting.

Why were the Flyers willing to deal Jeff Carter? Will Blue Jackets re-sign Michael Peca? Will Ryan Miller play for the Red Wings in 2009-10? Should the Maple Leafs buy out Darcy Tucker? Which teams may want to sign Jaroslav Halak to offer sheets? Are Glen Murray’s days with the Bruins numbered? Is Paul Ranger an untouchable in Tampa Bay?
