Quite a blast from the past with this one, however, this trade is one that hockey fans everywhere know a little something about. Great names for the Avs such as Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, and Mike Ricci (also a beloved member of the San Jose Sharks) were traded to Quebec from the Flyers in exchange for Eric Lindros. Lindros was just a draft pick at the time, with great potential having been shown in his years in the OHL. It seemed he would have a stellar career with the Nordiques, but that would never happen. Lindros did not want to play for the Nordiques, well more like refused to play for the Nordiques.

Upon drafting day he didn’t want to wear the jersey… a sign of things to come. The Nordiques did not want to trade Lindros as they wanted him to be the face of their turn around.

However, in 1992 the Nordiques finally agreed to move Lindros — with the Flyers or the Rangers as potential trading partners. Lindros eventually became a Flyer, in exchange for Forsberg, Huffman, Duchesne, Ricci, Hextall, Chris Simon, and a whopping $15 million dollars. Lindros got his way, he didn’t have to play with the Nordiques and the Nordiques got the best of the situation.

While the Nordiques became the Avs a few years later, they also ended up winning a Cup in their first season of existence. Those players traded, played important parts in that amazing inaugural season. Lindros played with the Flyers until 2000, however, he never won a Cup. The Nordiques and consequently the Avs, really lucked out in this trade while the Flyers got a great player and not too much else.
