Half way through the season, who have been the studs and who the duds?

A little bit over 42 games have gone by for most teams, usually at this point we’re getting ready for the playoff push, and it is on this time that we come to see which players or teams have been either surprises or disappointments.
Let’s start with the players:
Who’s been great this year:
1.-Kyle Quincey, one of [...]

2010 Canadian Olympic Squad

Steve Yzerman, one of the most beloved figureheads in all of hockey. Continuously mentioned in the same breath as recent hockey greats; Gretzky, Lemieux and Messier. His resume as a player is almost unparalleled; 6th place in all-time NHL scoring, 10 time NHL all-star, recipient of the Lester B. Pearson, Frank J. Selke, Conn Smythe [...]

Safe is Life: A Tampa Bay Lightning Season Review

When it comes to sitting down and saying something of real substance about the Tampa Bay Lighting’s new season, I can’t help but be at a loss for words. For those of you who know me, that is something that does not happen very often. What is to say that hasn’t been said before about the team? The Lightning has been up for speculation since the day Oren and Len came onto the scene saying “Hey, we’ll buy you!” Heck, the speculation has been going on for longer than that with our roller coaster seasons and poor ranks. The roller coaster came to a screeching halt when we came in 30th last season. But let’s forget that ever happened for the sake of our hearts. After that, we had more speculation with Dan Boyle’s un-sportsman like trade, and the end of the reign of Jay Feaster and John Tortorella. For a while, the hits just kept on coming to any fan. The shot heard around hockey bay has kept ringing for quite some time. Now it’s October and the storm has ended and it’s finally time to put the finishing touches on a team that has been rebuilt from practically scratch.

Tampa Bay Lightning and GM Jay Feaster go separate ways

It seems to me that every week there’s a new Tampa Bay Lightning move, to be honest with you I believe this one is mind boggling.

Boyle Is Not Going Anywhere, At Least That Is What He Says.

Tampa Bay: Dan, would you like to be traded? Boyle: Hell no!

Is Ryan Malone really worth 7 million?

Over the last few days we’ve seen all kinds of weird trades, some may change the course of an entire franchise just like the Toronto Maple Leafs/New York Islanders trade at the draft, while others seem to be a quick fix to an overwhelming lack of scoring, just like the Tampa bay Lightning/Pittsburgh Penguins deal.

Coach Culling Continues?

There are a lot of reports surfacing in the mainstream media that former LA Kings coach Barry “Billy Ray” Melrose will be introduced as the Tampa Bay Lightning’s new head coach, possibly as early as today. That might be a problem for current coach, John Tortorella…

Miller, Flyers, Smith, Hossa, and the Blues

Is Sabres’ Ryan Miller Motown bound? Are the Flyers glad they didn’t deal young talent? Will Jason Smith receive a contract offer from the Flyers? Is Marian Hossa in line for a no-trade clause? What do the Blues need the most?

Lightning lock-up Boyle

TSN reports that the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenseman Dan Boyle to a six-year deal worth $40 million.

Wild after Jokinen? Prospal to Flyers? Boyle staying in Tampa? And a Maple Leafs trade proposal…

Are the Wild interested in forward Olli Jokinen? Have the Flyers acquired Vaclav Prospal? Did the Tampa Bay Lightning re-sign Dan Boyle?

Sundin, Ducks, scouts, Marleau, and Predators

Are the Wild going after Mats Sundin? Do the Ducks intend to be big players at the deadline? Which team have the Stars been scouting lately? Will Patrick Marleau get dealt? Are the Predators looking for forwards?

Lecavalier, Richards, Boyle, Kaberle, Sundin, McCabe, Blake, Jokinen, Foote, and Thrashers

On Saturday’s edition of CBC’s Hotstove, the panel discussed a number of big-name players thought to be on the move before the February 26 trade deadline.

Lecavalier denying trade request; Richards being shopped?

While there are strong denials that Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vinny Lecavalier will demand a trade form the club in the off-season, new reports suggest that the Lightning may be shopping forward Brad Richards.

Lecavalier to ask for trade?

Al Strachan reported on this week’s CBC’s Satellite Hotstove that his sources in Florida are telling him forward Vincent Lecavalier will demand a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning in the off-season.
