Season Preview: Kings Exit Cellar

All too often I lament “It’s the Kings” and “There’s always next year”, but I do think it is inconceivable that the Kings will finish in the cellar again. A new coach, young talent, and even younger prospects bring much hope for the franchise. And hope is really all Kings fans have this season. It is doubtful the Kings will be able make a run at the playoffs but they will show what they have in store for the future. As the preseason dwindles down to a close the Kings roster is gradually taking shape. Each day a prospect is sent back to Juniors or the AHL another veteran player sighs in relief of not being placed on waivers (unless your name is Matt Ellis).

Smith, Gauthier, Malkin, Capitals, Lecavalier, Senators, and Lucic

Did the Flyers try to trade Jason Smith? Will Flyers place Dennis Gauthier on waivers? Would Penguins trade Evgeni Malkin if he becomes too pricey? Are the Capitals expecting to re-sign any of their trade deadline pick-ups? Is Vincent Lecavalier in line for a new contract? Will Senators have to trade Ray Emery to make room for free agent signings? Have the teams been calling the Bruins about Milan Lucic?

Flyers will need to work the cap to re-sign free agents

If the Philadelphia Flyers want to keep the core of their club together, they will have to come up some creative thinking, according to Chuck Gormley of the Courier Post Online.

Will Gauthier get another shot at the NHL?

While Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Denis Gauthier tells Chuck Gormley of the Courier Post Online that he is very much interested in playing for an NHL, his options remain limited.

Scouts at Sharks/Canucks game, Niedermayer and Selanne, Bouwmeester, Scatchard, Markov, Redden, and Gauthier

Which teams were scouting the Sharks and Canucks last Friday? Have Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne made up their minds about playing this season? Are the Panthers still trying to sign Bouwmeester? Do the Maple Leafs want to sign Dave Scatchard? Which teams are still interested in Danny Markov? Have the Senators discussed a new deal with Wade Redden? Why did the Flyers place Denis Gauthier on waivers?

Blackhawks and Redden, Flyers, Penguins and Hall, and Selanne

Are the Blackhawks interested in Wade Redden? Will the Flyers trade a defenseman to fill gap at forward? Have the Penguins offered Adam Hall a contract? Is Teemu Selanne waiting for Scott Niedermayer’s decision to make up his mind?

Gauthier gone if he doesn’t make the Flyers?

According to Ed Moran of the Philadelphia Daily News, if Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Denis Gauthier doesn’t make the team out of training camp he will be put on the trade block.

If Rathje’s in, will Flyers trade Gauthier?

Both Tim Panaccio of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Chuck Gormley of the Courier Post Online believe that if Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Mike Rathje makes the team out of training camp, Denis Gauthier will be traded to make room for him.

Will Gauthier fall victim to numbers game?

After adding Kimmo Timonen and Jason Smith to their defense during the off-season, word from Philadelphia is that the Flyers may be looking to part with defensemen Denis Gauthier, Courier Post Online’s Chuck Gormley.
