Pittsburgh Penguins season preview

Penguins’ GM Ray Shero was one busy man this offseason, replacing several key members of the Eastern Conference champs, such as Marian Hossa, Ryan Malone, Gary Roberts, Ty Conklin and Jarkko Ruutu. Shero did an admirable job during free agency to fill the holes, not only in signing free agents Miro Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko, Matt Cooke and Eric Godard, but also in resigning veterans Brooks Orpik and Pascal Dupuis.

Howard Shapiro Interview, Part 1 – The Penguins, this season and beyond

I recently got the opportunity to sit down with “Hockey Days” author Howard Shapiro for a little Q & A. Shapiro is on a media blitz promoting his latest effort, “Hockey Player For Life,” set for release October 7.

All Eyes On Montreal

Things are pretty busy in Montreal these days and rumors are all over the place. Maxime Lapierre, Andrei Kostitsyn, Corey Locke, Mats Sundin, Teemu Selanne, Marian Hossa: what’s Bob Gainey doing?

To Whom The Conn Smythe?

So many talented players, only one Conn Smythe Winner. Who are the best players? We know who the best players are. Who’s the ultimate MVP? That we could know as early as Monday. Who should win the Conn Smythe? I have a pretty good idea…

Pens To Cup Final

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first team to the Stanley Cup final. The Pens soundly defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 Sunday night leaving no doubt that the Pens loss in game four was a wake-up call.

Hossa Silencing Skeptics, So Far

The biggest knock on Marian Hossa was his play in the post season. Know that Hossa has played 12 games in the post season this year, where are the critics?

Round 2, Match-Ups

The second round of the play-offs will be as good, if not better than the first round. With all the interesting match-ups for the next round, it’s hard to say which one will be the best to watch.

Same As It Ever Was

Now that the hockey regular season is all but over, the guessing of which players that teams not making the post season will want to acquire will once again begin. The NHL is right back where they were before the lock-out.

Pens Top Isles 3-1

Sidney Crosby returned to the ice last night after sitting out the last few games with his high ankle sprain. He shouldn’t have bothered.

Will finances break up Malone, Penguins?

Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review suggests that Pittsburgh Penguins pending unrestricted free agent forward Ryan Malone will hit the open market come July 1st.

Smith, Gauthier, Malkin, Capitals, Lecavalier, Senators, and Lucic

Did the Flyers try to trade Jason Smith? Will Flyers place Dennis Gauthier on waivers? Would Penguins trade Evgeni Malkin if he becomes too pricey? Are the Capitals expecting to re-sign any of their trade deadline pick-ups? Is Vincent Lecavalier in line for a new contract? Will Senators have to trade Ray Emery to make room for free agent signings? Have the teams been calling the Bruins about Milan Lucic?

Will Penguins re-sign Hossa?

Jason Botterill, Pittsburgh Penguins’ man in charge of their salary cap situation, tells the National Post’s Scott Taylor that the club has not made a decision on whether to offer pending unrestricted free agent forward Marian Hossa a contract.

RFAs, Tanabe, and the Blues

Which RFAs will get re-signed before they hit the market? Can the Hurricanes buy out David Tanabe? Will the Blues seek to improve their offense this summer?

Hossa Out At Least A Week!!!

TSN is reporting that Marian Hossa injured his knee in the Pittsburgh Penguins game against the Boston Bruins, a game in which the Pens also lost 5-1.

Here yesterday, gone today

The 2006-2007 NHL trade deadline had just as many transactions, but few of the superstar names. This year, with over 25 trades made in a day, and a busy month of February, some teams scored big–others, not so much. We look at some of the better deals and how helpful they will be.
