Season starts off with a bang in Detroit for…The Maple Leafs!

A short summary of the opening night contest between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Detroit Red Wings Season Preview: Defending Champs

In a way the Detroit Red Wings have one of the toughest jobs in hockey this coming season – defending the Stanley Cup. Detroit was the last team to win back to back championships (in ‘97 and ‘98) and is considered a favorite to repeat in ‘08-’09 – which is saying a lot in an era where repeats are rare and more often than not a team wins the Cup and finds their roster cracked open before the start of the next season, the pieces of their Stanley Cup puzzle scattered into free agency, priced out of the team’s salary cap allowances after having proven their worth all the way to the ultimate prize.

What should the Detroit Red Wings do In order to create a Dynasty?

Bringing the Stanley cup is a joy few people can feel, think about it coaches, gms and owners demand many things from a star player like playing 82 games, scoring over 70 points, and having a great plus minus average, and that’s without playoffs taken into account. I have no doubt in my mind it’s a challenge few are up to, after all its way more difficult than winning the Superbowl, sorry NFL fans, and I’m certain one of the keys to do it is to continue with that DESIRE TO WIN NO MATTER WHAT.

There Is A First Time For Everything

The Detroit Red Wings are the Stanley Cup champions for the 2007-08 season. After being the best team in the NHL all season long. The Wings won their fourth cup in eleven years. One player on the team however made history.

To Whom The Conn Smythe?

So many talented players, only one Conn Smythe Winner. Who are the best players? We know who the best players are. Who’s the ultimate MVP? That we could know as early as Monday. Who should win the Conn Smythe? I have a pretty good idea…

Deep Thoughts On The Playoffs

It’s time for another edition of “Deep Thoughts.” In this installment, I take enjoyment in the struggles of Carey Price, wonder how moronic Darian Hatcher actually is, marvel at the scouting prowess of the Detroit Red Wings, show the Dallas Stars some respect, and pass along some links and video. Enjoy.

Demitra, Ducks, Lidstrom, Campbell, and the Canadiens

Are the Wild shopping Pavol Demitra? Do the Ducks have more moves planned? Is Nicklas Lidstrom about to re-sign with the Red Wings? Are the Sabres and Brian Campbell talking contract yet? Have the Canadiens contacted the Lightning about Vincent Lecavalier?

Lidstrom, Matvichuk, 14 scouts in Columbus, Pock, Malik and Mara, Pratt, Tavares

Is Nicklas Lidstrom close to re-signing with the Red Wings? Will the Devils waive Matvichuk? How many scouts were watching the Blues taking on the Blue Jackets? Would Thomas Pock get claimed off re-entry waivers? Are the Rangers thinking of trading Marek Malik and/or Paul Mara? Which UFA defenseman are the Sabres close to signing? What’s John Tavares saying about being pursued by the Maple Leafs?

Forsberg, Konopka, the Senators, Draper, and Lidstrom

Where does Peter Forsberg want to play? Which Blue Jackets forward has caught the Senators’ attention? Are the Senators shopping Martin Gerber or Ray Emery? Which two veteran players and pending UFAs are the Red Wings trying to re-sign?

Red Wings want forward, maybe Markov

According to the Detroit Free Press, Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland is interested in adding a forward and perhaps re-signing defenseman Danny Markov before the start of the NHL season.
