Habs Mid Season, With a Twist?
The Montreal Canadiens are better by the numbers with the exception of the power play than at this time last year. Some surprises good and bad, and one hot rumour!

I’ll be updating this column weekly, tracking the season of the New York Islanders. The big story thus far has been the inactivity of franchise goalie Rick Dipietro. He finally received his first start of the year against Florida on Saturday night and let in a goal early on. However, he settled down afterwards and played reasonably well, keeping the Islanders in the game.
When it comes to sitting down and saying something of real substance about the Tampa Bay Lighting’s new season, I can’t help but be at a loss for words. For those of you who know me, that is something that does not happen very often. What is to say that hasn’t been said before about the team? The Lightning has been up for speculation since the day Oren and Len came onto the scene saying “Hey, we’ll buy you!” Heck, the speculation has been going on for longer than that with our roller coaster seasons and poor ranks. The roller coaster came to a screeching halt when we came in 30th last season. But let’s forget that ever happened for the sake of our hearts. After that, we had more speculation with Dan Boyle’s un-sportsman like trade, and the end of the reign of Jay Feaster and John Tortorella. For a while, the hits just kept on coming to any fan. The shot heard around hockey bay has kept ringing for quite some time. Now it’s October and the storm has ended and it’s finally time to put the finishing touches on a team that has been rebuilt from practically scratch.
RumorMeThis is currently trying to gather Guest Bloggers for each of the 30 NHL teams, and have them report on their respective teams at certain points during the regular season, playoffs, and the off-season.
What we’re looking for
This is a tentative list of posts and schedule we’re aiming for:
Season Preview (Oct 1)
All-Star Break (Midway season review [...]
A report given by the Globe and Mail stated that the NHL has publicly announced the possibility of expanding to teams overseas. Seemingly overnight, this speculation has spawned garrulous debate about possible expansion; from newspaper articles to blog pages across the continent. Although they do not expect that this expansion has an adequate timeline, the NHL expects the possibility of it materializing within the next 10 years.
Steven Stamkos could not be happier as he was signed to an entry level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stamkos was selected 1st overall in the 2008 Entry Draft and has dreamed one of one day playing in the NHL. Well he edged closer to that dream as he was signed to a signed a three-year, $2.625 million contract that could be worth up to $11.175 million with incentives.
Jason Wiemer played 14 seasons in the NHL and was well known for being a gritty center who worked hard and wasn’t shy about sticking up for teammates when the occasion called for it. He sat down recently with RumorMeThis.com’s Frank Mazzola to discuss the current state of the NHL and to share some perspective about his career.
It seems to me that every week there’s a new Tampa Bay Lightning move, to be honest with you I believe this one is mind boggling.
Great additions to the Montreal Canadiens roster. How good are they and what could they bring for the Habs’ organization?
Tampa Bay: Dan, would you like to be traded? Boyle: Hell no!
Over the last few days we’ve seen all kinds of weird trades, some may change the course of an entire franchise just like the Toronto Maple Leafs/New York Islanders trade at the draft, while others seem to be a quick fix to an overwhelming lack of scoring, just like the Tampa bay Lightning/Pittsburgh Penguins deal.
There are rumours in Montreal that Vincent Lecavalier might be moving soon, real soon, draft day soon. One guess as to where that would be.
The NHL entry draft is in two weeks. The Montreal Canadiens are making some news. Some rumours are floating around about players coming, being interested in, or the Habs having interest in them. Along with some minor news.
The worst kept secret in the NHL has finally been confirmed: John Tortorella is not coming back behind The Tampa Bay Lightning’s bench for the 08-09 season and is officially jobless.
What’s the latest on Vincent LeCavalier? Does he want to stay? Do they even really want him back? What do his agent think about all of this? Barry Melrose: behind Tampa Bay’s bench or in ESPN studios for next season?
