New York Islanders Season Preview

This series of articles will preview the New York Islanders for the upcoming season. I’ll cover the general overview of the team, the goaltenders position, the defense and the forwards.

Islanders tab Scott Gordon to be their man

The New York Islanders hired former Providence Bruins coach Scott Gordon last night to fill their coaching vacancy.

Nolan Out as Isles Coach

Ted Nolan and the New York Islanders officially parted company today in a move that has been brewing for months. GM Garth Snow announced that he will immediately begin searching for a replacement and has several candidates in mind.

Islanders Draft Watch: Mikkel Boedker

Each week, from now until the Draft, I will be profiling a new prospect from the Draft Pool and analyzing how their skills might or might not make them a good fit for the New York Islanders.

Isles beat Rangers 4-3 to Close Out Season

The New York Islanders achieved a measure of revenge last night as they gutted out a hard-fought shootout victory over the New York Rangers, 4-3.

Rangers Blank Isles 3-0

It really doesn’t get much worse than having your hated rivals clinch a playoff spot by beating your team on it’s home ice… and shutting them out, no less.

Devils Top Isles in OT 2-1

Islander’s goalie Joey McDonald put on an exemplary performance last night, turning aside 45 shots in a 2-1 OT loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Flyers Edge Isles 4-3

The shootout goal wasn’t the prettiest of Daniel Briere’s career, but it was certainly an important one.

Islanders Down Pittsburgh 4-1

Will the REAL New York Islanders please stand up?
Twenty four hours after getting taken apart by Philadelphia (in part due to a lack of discipline and and inability to get organized defensively), the Isles dished out a little payback to the Flyers’ Pennsylvania neighbors, the Pittsburgh Penguins.  New York got tallies from Richard Park (shorthanded), Bill Guerin, Sean Bergenheim [...]

Flyers Dominate Islanders 4-1

Another game against the Flyers…..another loss for the Islanders. Philadelphia continued their winning ways against New York last night with an authoritative 4-1 victory.

Isles Topple Devils 3-1

What a beginning to Kyle Okposo’s career. The highly touted prospect of the New York Islanders scored his first NHL goal last night (the Game Winning goal, no less) and contributed an assist in the Islanders’ 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils last night at the Prudential Center. The win broke New York’s losing streak at 6 games. Blake Comeau and Trent Hunter (empty netter) also contributed goals for the Islanders. Travis Zajac tallied for the Devils.

Canadiens Blank Isles 3-0

The New York Islanders…the NHL’s version of Groundhog’s Day. If one were to compose a template for reporting on the remaining games on the schedule, it would read something like this: “The team worked hard….the kids gained experience….Rick Dipietro played well but had no offensive support….New York has no one who can put the puck in the net on a regular basis”.

Flyers Soar Past Islanders 4-1

4-1 victories over the Islanders are becoming a habit now for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Battle of New York, Part 1…Isles beat Rangers 4-3

It’s been a long time since hockey has been relevant in New York… but don’t tell that to Islanders and Rangers fans. Every time these two step on the ice against one another, fans of each team treat the contest as if it were Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
