Rangers Versus Leafs – Game Impressions

It’s tough to watch the Rangers when you live in Ottawa (still working on getting Centre Ice). However, I discovered that Leafs TV online is still offering free online streaming of games, including the broadcast. That’s how I enjoyed watching a tense 1-0 Rangers shootout win against a relentless Toronto Maple Leafs team last night.

Pittsburgh Penguins season preview

Penguins’ GM Ray Shero was one busy man this offseason, replacing several key members of the Eastern Conference champs, such as Marian Hossa, Ryan Malone, Gary Roberts, Ty Conklin and Jarkko Ruutu. Shero did an admirable job during free agency to fill the holes, not only in signing free agents Miro Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko, Matt Cooke and Eric Godard, but also in resigning veterans Brooks Orpik and Pascal Dupuis.

It is no secret as to who has been the favourite team of most NHL fans during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins have become the darlings of this year’s playoffs, which has prompted many to jump on their bandwagon. Boasting intriguing youth such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeny Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury, it is easy for fans, especially young ones, to get caught up in the hype associated with this young and offensively gifted team.

Ratings and Viewership Continue to Rise Through First Two Playoff Rounds

VERSUS, the exclusive cable television home of the National Hockey League, will continue its wall-to-wall coverage of the 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Conference Finals commence on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Detroit Red Wings and the Dallas Stars will begin their battle for the right to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Final. The Conference Finals continue on Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET when the Eastern Conference takes center stage as the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins face-off in Game 1 of their intrastate showdown. All Conference Finals telecasts on VERSUS are exclusive.

VERSUS has wall-to-wall coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs

VERSUS, the exclusive cable television home of the NHL, will televise wall-to-wall Stanley Cup Playoffs action starting April 9 with the Conference Quarterfinals as the Ottawa Senators begin their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m. ET followed by Game 1 of the series between the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks at 10 p.m. ET. VERSUS will kick-off the night with “Hockey Central” at 6:30 p.m. ET. The network will air all of the rounds leading up to and including the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final. Each night during the playoffs, VERSUS will televise one or two playoff games as well as the studio wrap-up show, “Hockey Central.”

SJHL’s Dwight McMillan wins game number 1000!

The chase for career victory 1000 is over. Dwight McMillan, the head coach for the Weyburn Red Wings, created SJHL history when he coached his way into the record books on Friday, February 1 as his Weyburn Red Wings defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves by a score of 4-1. He now joins an elite group of coaches who have won 1000 career games. Those two coaches are NHL legend Scotty Bowman and NHL Hall of Fame inductee Brian Kilrea.

VERSUS Heads into the 56th NHL All-Star Weekend with Increase in Ratings and Total Viewership

VERSUS, the national cable television home of the NHL, today announced details of its wall-to-wall coverage of the 2008 NHL All-Star Weekend. On Saturday, January 26, at 7 p.m. ET VERSUS will televise the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills competition as the All-Stars show off their skating, puck-handling and shooting skills. This year, for the first-time ever, the NHL YoungStars game will be part of the SuperSkills competition. The network will conclude its weekend coverage on Sunday, January 27, at 6 p.m. ET when the best of the Eastern and Western Conferences clash for the 56th annual NHL All-Star game at the Philips Arena in Atlanta.
