Islanders Week In Review
I’ll be updating this column on a weekly basis, tracking the season of the New York Islanders.
Games:
10/27/08- Islanders 2, New York Rangers 4
10/30/08- Islanders 3, Philadelphia Flyers 4
11/01/08- Islanders 4, Montreal Canadiens 5
New and Notes:
- The Islanders suffered one of the worst meltdowns in franchise history against the Canadiens, allowing Montreal to score four goals in the third period in a comeback victory.
- Starting goalie Rick Dipietro underwent knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear and will be lost for an undetermined period of time. In his stead, Joey MacDonald and Yann Danis will attempt to hold down the fort.
- C Frans Nielsen has shown signs of improvement as of late. He has four points in ten games this season.
- D Mark Streit continue to be one of the few bright spots on the Island. He has recorded points in each of the last five games.
- Hulking LW Mitch Fritz had an impressive scrap against one of the league’s most feared enforcers, Georges Laraque, Saturday night. He may see more ice time as the Islanders attempt to infuse more toughness in their lineup.
This Week’s Games:
11/3/08- vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
11/4/08- vs. New York Rangers
11/6/08- vs. Atlanta Thrashers
11/8/08 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
