Habs Lose To Sens

The Montreal Canadiens lost 3-0 to the Ottawa Senators tonight, which now puts the Habs in fifth place in the east as the Sens have more wins.

The Canadiens looked completely out matched, for most of the game, perhaps their jet-lag finally caught up to them. The Habs now have no chance in tieing the season series against Ottawa as the sens have won 5 out of 6 games against the Habs. Martin Gerber looked good tonight, but for the most part, the Canadiens were held to shots from the outside which seemingly Gerber saw.

This loss was the one that the Canadiens were supposed to have coming back from their western road trip, which would have been against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, unfortunately losses now are not what the Habs need as the shifting in the conference does not favor them, with the Sens, Devils, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the re-surging New York Rangers all fighting for top spot in the east, the Habs have alot to lose if they go on an extended losing streak.

The Habs are a young team and will have to notice that they may have the skill to play flat against certain teams and still win, but that is the minority as most teams are well rounded this year. The youth of the team is great to watch, but it comes with the draw back of over confidence when they beat a team like the Devils and think they can coast against the Sens. What this young team will have to learn is that they have to play for 60 minutes, not turn it on when they feel like it, although coming back from behind to win games is exciting to watch, it isn’t good to always be behind in the scoring.

The coach Guy Carbonneau will have to tell his players that losing is what happens when you don’t show up and play well for the whole game, and that the Habs will not go far in the play-offs if they keep relying on their goalie to bail them out of every game . The Habs can’t permit themselves to play when they feel like it, they must win at least 5 or 6 more games this season, and then concentrate on the play-off picture, or maybe the team should stop partying when they are in town and concentrate on hockey, if they in-fact party too much.
