Halak To Start Again For Habs!!

TSN is reporting that the young Slovak-born goalie Jaroslav Halak will get his second start in a row, after Saturday’s performance of a 3-0 shut-out against the New York Islanders, coach Guy Carbonneau decided that Halak deserved another start.

This is a great confidence booster for the young Slovak, it means that he has played well enough to start again. For Halak to start two games in a row is good as the Habs need both goal-tenders to be in tip-top shape entering the play-offs, Halak is undefeated so far in his career at the Bell Centre, let’s hope it stays that way.

Although it might be a good thing for Jaroslav to start two straight, what happens if he wins again? Will it force Carbonneau to use him for a third straight game? Carey Price was made the no.1 goalie for the Habs unofficially, and if Halak keeps playing, and well, will Price take it as a challenge, and be forced to play even better? Which goalie will start the play-offs, the one who is on a hot streak, or Price being the unofficial no.1?

Competition is a good thing among goalies, it’s good if they each push each other to play well, for now it’s good, but remember Bob Gainey General Manager for the Habs has stated that the future could be with both goalies, or one of them, which makes one wonder, if Price is the unofficial no.1, are the Habs playing Halak to raise his market value higher than it already is to trade him at the draft, or anytime before July 1,? Either way, the Canadiens have it good right now with two goalies who can win some games for them, but whomever is the no.1, at some point will be insulted that the back-up is playing just as good as he is.

For now, let the Habs be content to have two excellent young goalies who can both play well for them, what could, or could not happen in the off season is irrelevant for now, except for Gainey. Could this also be part of Gainey’s plan, to trade one of his great young goalies for an impact player? That remains to be seen, for now let’s all enjoy the Habs play this year, and wish them luck in the play-offs. Price will most certainly start in the play-offs, unless his play drops considerably.
