He felt he wasn't living up to his responsibilities on the team and that nobody would want him in the offseason. To me, that's basically a guy asking to come back. And, if that's the case, he should be willing to accept even a $2.2M-$2.5M per season salary for two years, and do his negotiating on the ice... At his peak, I'd agree to Avery getting $3.5-$3.8M Why not? His intangibles are worth a lot, at least according to anyone who has played with him...
