Koivu Could Be On The Ice Soon

RDS is reporting that Montreal Canadiens forward Saku Koivu will have x-rays taken of his foot on Wednesday, and depending on what the x-ray reveals, the doctors could give him the green light to skate.

The fans in Montreal hope that Koivu comes back soon as it would give the Habs the opportunity to make their lines what they were in the regular season. It would also give the team a boost. Koivu has had a broken bone in his foot after taking a shot from Ales Kotalik on March 28.

Assuming for a minute that Koivu get’s the green light to play on Wednesday, and how the Canadiens do on Tuesday night, it’s not impossible to suggest that Koivu could play on Thursday, or Saturday.

Regardless of what happens in the Koivu aspect, the Canadiens should make some minor line-up changes, the Habs should put Mark Streit back at the forward position, sit Mathieu Dandenault, and bring Ryan O’Byrne back to the line-up. Nothing is being said as to when Francis Bouillon will be back, but hopefully soon. The Habs should also look at the possibility of sitting Michael Ryder for a game or two, and replacing him with Gregory Stewart.

Something has to be done, this is the play-offs and there are still some players going along for the ride, that might work in the regular season but not in the play-offs. People like Ryder, who is doing some checking, but if the Habs can insert Stewart instead of Ryder, and give that line some spunk why not, Stewart can’t do any worse. I think Ryder is an alright guy, but unfortunately he has had a bad season, and a bad start to the play-offs, enough is enough, sure a coach is supposed to start the play-offs with the veterans, which Guy Carbonneau did, now it’s time to let the kids get some experience.

It’s not time to panic yet, but if the Habs don’t win game 4, fans will most likely start asking where they’re Habs have gone. The Boston Bruins were going to beat the Habs sooner or later, but now that’s out of the way, it’s time to get back to work and play like the Habs played all year.
