Raycroft, Chistov, and the Blue Jackets
Is Maple Leafs’ Andrew Raycroft garnering any attention from other teams? Has Stanislav Chistov’s signed with Salavat Yulayev yet? How will the Blue Jackets replace Alexander Svitov?
Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun suggests that if any team really thought that Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Andrew Raycroft is a number one netminder, they would have tried to trade for him by now. With a $2 million salary cap hit, he’d be a cheap option for any team looking for an upgrade in net. however, “no real offers of consequence” have been made up to this point.
Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli tells Fluto Shinzawa of The Boston Globe that Bruins forward Stanislav Chistov’s deal with Salavat Yulayev Ufa of the Russian Super League isn’t official just yet.
According to Michael Arace of The Columbus Dispatch, the Columbus Blue Jackets will try to pick up unrestricted free agent Michael Peca to replace the departed Alexander Svitov.
If they can’t sign Peca, the Blue Jackets might pursue a UFA defenseman, perhaps Danny Markov. One thing is for sure, though: they will not overpay for either of them. Also, as training camp nears, the possibility of trades and waiver wire pick-ups could increase.
